Why should I seek therapy?

Therapy is helpful to have a safe place to talk about life concerns. Therapy offers a place to look at emotions and examine ways to help make life more rewarding and joyful.

I am a Christian; do I need to see a Christian therapist?

Whether or not to seek a Christian therapist is an individual decision. I am a spiritual therapist and that means I embrace all beliefs in that they feed the soul of the individual in a meaningful and productive way. I do not subscribe to a specific religion myself but rather understand God in my way. I honor my clients’ beliefs and always offer to discuss theirs should they have the desire.

I am gay and wonder if I need to seek a therapist who specializes in the specific concerns surrounding this?

I believe that all people struggle with to a greater or lesser degree, the idea of being enough. At the core of us all, we want to be seen, heard and know that we matter. While being gay has its unique difficulties, they still fall under this framework. As a therapist I welcome the opportunity to help any person who wants help.

Therapy is not a place of judgment it is a place to heal. I deal with many different life challenges, abuse and grief. I understand that we all face hard things and that it is not my job to judge you but rather to help you find peace and forgiveness to lead a more productive and healthy life.

I do not directly accept, bill or assist patients with private or group insurance. However, I do understand that many of my patients have insurance that can help with the financial aspect of counseling and treatment. As a patient, you are more than welcome to take your receipt and submit that information directly to your insurance carrier for the opportunity of getting reimbursement. Please remember that many insurance carriers do not cover an out-of-network Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Michigan. *Only those therapists who are Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) are covered by insurance typically.

I will work directly with you to formulate your own special counseling path. Each journey is different and there is no hard-and-fast rule as to “how long.” Typically, I see clients for anywhere from 6-8 weeks to over a year.
